In 2010 Foghat released their first Blues CD “Last Train Home”. The reviews were fantastic and the biggest surprise was the response to our ONLY instrumental ever recorded ‘495 Boogie’. So we ran a contest for our fans to add lyrics to the music and that was fantastic too. The winner of the contest was Phil Dessinger and the new song is called ‘The Word (of Rock n’ Roll)’.
Foghat has re-recorded ‘495 Boogie’ with Charlie singing and we will be releasing the single on July 9th!
Now…to continue the fun we are having a LYRIC VIDEO CONTEST and we want you to be part of it!
We will be posting lyrics from “The Word (of Rock n’ Roll) to our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/foghat every few days. We want you to POST A PHOTO corresponding to that lyric. Feel free to post more than one, and tell your friends!
Please listen to the contest entry of the song and read the lyrics to get a head start. For easy instructions about the contest, just go to www.foghat.net and click on the link. Winners will get their name in the video credits and win an autographed copy of “Last Train Home” a free download of the single AND if you come to a show we will be sure to get you to meet the band! LYRIC #1 – ALARM CLOCK RINGS IN THE DARK
THE WORD (of Rock n’ Roll) / 495 Boogie
Alarm clock rings in the dark
Ain’t no birds singin’ in the park
Shower is cold and the razor stings
My eyes are red and my ears ring
My rig is loaded and I’m ready to go
Down four ninety-five to another show.
Drive all night, come on!
Love my life, come on!
May be a grind, but I’m strong
CruIsin’ and singin’ a song
I’m bringin’ the word, the word of rock ‘n roll.
A little late gettin’ to the back stage door
Cloud opens up it begins to pour
Loadin’ down the ramp gettin’ soakin’ wet
Got no roadies or a private jet
Smokin’ that cigar with the evil grin
The club owner says, “Boy, we’re packin’ ‘em in!”
Well all right, come on!
Love my life, come on!
May be a grind, but I’m strong
Turnin’ the bright lights on
I’m bringin’ the word, the word of rock ‘n roll
The Word of Rock n’ Roll
The Word of Rock n’ Roll
I’m bringin’ the word, I’m bringin’ the word
The Word of Rock n’ Roll
I’m bringing the word, the word of Rock n’ Roll
YEAH
Drummer sits down starts hittin’ the sticks
Full-throttle band just getting’ the kicks
E-lec-tricity up the spine
Surrender to the feelin’ every time
Room full ‘a people start to bop ‘n sway
Forget about the problems that they had today
Rock all night, come on!
Love my life, come on!
May be a grind, but I’m strong
Turnin’ the people on
Gotta hear The Word, The Word of rock ‘n roll
Another encore but they still want more
House lights on, cops at the door
Drummer in no hurry packin’ up his kit
Surrounded by a half a dozen chicks
Club owner’s got that evil smile
Splittin’ up the cash in a little while
Ain’t no fight, come on!
Love my life, come on!
May be a grind, but I’m strong
Drive right through the dawn
I’m bringin’ The Word, The Word of rock ‘n roll
The Word of Rock n’ Roll
The Word of Rock n’ Roll
I’m bringin’ the word, bringin’ the word
The Word of Rock n’ Roll
I’m bringing the word, the word of Rock n’ Roll
